Snow
Waiting for the Bus
traffic going my direction
is slow enough
for snow to stick on tires
cold enough
for snow to stick on road
road and tires
meet and squeak
like farting ducks
I must turn
like a weather-vane
to keep the smell
out of my face
some have windows cracked
and when the wind is right
I smell a whiff of heat
carrying coffee or smoke
or morning news
of warmer places
I am late
or the bus was early
as my tracks fill in
traffic going my direction
is fast enough
and the roofs of cars
cold enough
for the snow to wisp off
like a second exhaust
and when the wind is right
the whiffs mix in
and I must turn
like a weather-vane
to keep from
good and choking
the road is packed
and cold enough
if I shoulder checked
to send a sub-compact
into a tail-spin
the wind and snow
put on a show
I can see gusts
approaching
so that I can turn
just ahead of time
like a weather-vane
with mind enough
the road is packed
but where cars don't go
it is cold enough
for a fluffy snow
for my tracks to fill in
and fill in again
and I must turn
like a weather-vane
hope to forget
where I am going
