Peter's Prayer

Peter's Prayer:

Our Father in Heaven, we thank Thee that in a world where millions suffer from hunger and malnutrition, we in America are blessed with a conspicuous abundance of food and drink. We thank Thee that in a world where millions suffer from a lack of adequate clothing and shelter, we in America are blessed with fine clothes and beautiful homes. We pray that Thou wilt fill us with love for our less fortunate brothers and sisters. We pray that Thou wilt help us to use our great riches with humility and responsibility; that Thou wilt teach us how to distinguish the eternal values from the honorific emblems of vanity and pride. Help us, O God. Help us to remember the words of Thy Son when he said, 'Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal. But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.' In Veblen's name we ask it. Amen.

Wow, I've been missing great stuff on your blog. I love Peter's prayer. Just needs a rameamptum. I've been thinking about Veblen a lot lately... as I shop for back to school skinny jeans and neon tops. You know, cuz I can.
